Why Kallax Became the Default Answer

It was not designed for records — it is a general-purpose cube shelf — but the interior cube dimensions happen to work well for 12-inch LPs standing upright, and the price point is far below almost any purpose-built record furniture. Kallax Sizing for Records, Explained

The standard Kallax cube measures roughly 13 by 13 inches inside, with about 15 inches of depth on the deeper units. A 12-inch record in a sleeve is about 12.375 inches square, which leaves a small but workable margin on width and height, and enough depth that records sit with a bit of room to spare rather than being crammed edge to edge.

Felt or cork cube liners — a smaller upgrade that protects the inside surface of the cube from scuffing as records slide in and out repeatedly

None of these are expensive, and most collectors end up using a mix — doors on the top row where dust and light matter most, open cubes lower down for records in heavy rotation.

Alternatives If Kallax Does Not Fit Your Space
